Meixuan's Students Play The Yellow River Piano Concerto

Congratulations to Our Young Piano Virtuosos on a Powerful Tribute to Xian Xinghai "The Yellow River" Piano Concerto Awakens National Memory Through Youthful Brilliance

On a night filled with passion, pride, and artistic excellence, four extraordinary young pianists took the stage alongside the American Chinese Orchestra, under the direction of celebrated conductor Zhu Changyao and artistic mentorship from Meixuan Li, to present the monumental Piano Concerto The Yellow River.

Their performance honored the legacy of composer Xian Xinghai, whose music continues to echo the resilience and spirit of the Chinese people.

The Yellow River: China's Mother River Often called the “Mother River of China,” the Yellow River holds the same cultural and symbolic weight for China as the Mississippi River does for the United States — both representing the lifeblood of a civilization.

The Yellow River Piano Concerto was originally adapted in 1969 from Xian Xinghai’s Yellow River Cantata, composed in 1939 during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The concerto was later arranged by a collective of Chinese musicians, including Yin Chengzong and Chu Wanghua, as a celebration of Chinese resistance and ultimate victory in WWII — a war during which China and the United States stood united as Allies. Today, it remains one of the most powerful symbols of patriotism in modern Chinese music.

Featured Soloists: Nicole Liu (11) – Movement I: The Song of the Yellow River Boatmen Henry Duan (9) – Movement II: Ode to the Yellow River Avril Eich (13) – Movement III: The Wrath of the Yellow River Grace Wang (13) – Movement IV: Defend the Yellow River

With astonishing maturity and skill, these young pianists breathed new life into a national epic — stirring hearts and minds, and proving that the next generation is ready to carry forward a legacy of artistic excellence and cultural pride.
