Bio
Altana Schweitzer is a passionate violinist and educator with over a decade of experience as both a teacher and performer. She holds a Master of Music in Violin Performance from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she was a full-scholarship member of the Graduate String Quartet Program and received the Julian Olevsky Memorial Award for Excellence in Violin Performance. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music and Psychology from Brandeis University, graduating with highest honors as a Leonard Bernstein Fellow in chamber music.
Altana’s teaching philosophy emphasizes strong technique, expressive playing, and fostering a lifelong love of music. She has worked with students of all ages and levels in both private and group settings, and is committed to fostering a supportive and encouraging environment where students can grow in skill and confidence.
As a performer, Altana has served as concertmaster and principal violinist with several orchestras, including the UMass Symphony, Opus One Chamber Orchestra, and New England Film Orchestra. Her training includes studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and performances at venues such as Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Spreckels Theatre, and Boston’s Hatch Shell.
Originally from San Diego, Altana grew up playing in the San Diego Youth Symphony, where she held the Dr. Margaret Lake Memorial Endowed Chair and served in leadership roles in San Dieguito regional orchestras. She is proud to now give back to the community that shaped her musical path. In addition to teaching, she works with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and La Jolla Music Society, combining her passions for performance, education, and the arts.
