1. Overview & Purpose

  • Belle Melodie Music Art School is committed to providing a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment for students, families, instructors, staff, and visitors.

  • This Site Safety Plan outlines the policies and procedures used to:

  • Identify and minimize safety risks

  • Maintain a safe facility and learning environment

  • Respond effectively to emergencies

  • Promote health, well-being, and responsible conduct

  • This plan applies to all Belle Melodie locations, programs, and activities, including private lessons, group classes, camps, rehearsals, and events.

2. Family Safety Plan (Child Protection)

  • Live Scan fingerprinting and background checks

  • Mandated reporter and child safety training (AB 506 compliance)

  • Classroom visibility, cameras, and lesson observability

  • Parent access and transparency policies

​3. Scope & Applicability

This Site Safety Plan applies to:

  • All Belle Melodie facilities and satellite studios

  • Students, instructors (employees and contractors), staff

  • Parents, guardians, and visitors

  • On-site events, camps, recitals, and special programs

  • All individuals on site are expected to follow these safety guidelines.

4. Roles & Responsibilities

School Administration

  • Maintain and review this Site Safety Plan

  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards

  • Coordinate emergency preparedness and response

Instructors & Staff

  • Supervise students during all scheduled activities

  • Follow safety procedures and emergency protocols

  • Report hazards, incidents, or near-misses promptly

Students

  • Follow instructor and staff safety instructions

  • Use instruments and equipment responsibly

Parents & Visitors

  • Follow posted safety rules

  • Supervise non-enrolled children at all times

5. Hazard Identification & Prevention

Common Identified Hazards

  • Slips, trips, and falls

  • Electrical equipment and cables

  • Musical instruments and storage racks

  • Crowded hallways during peak hours

  • Fire, smoke, or power outages

  • Earthquake risk (California)

Preventive Measures

  • Walkways and exits kept clear at all times

  • Proper cable management and equipment placement

  • Regular housekeeping and facility checks

  • Age-appropriate instrument use

  • Active supervision during transitions

6. Facility Safety Rules

  • No running in hallways or classrooms

  • Emergency exits must remain unobstructed

  • Food and drinks allowed only in designated area (also see Manner Part)

  • Instruments and equipment may be used only with instructor permission

  • Storage and staff areas are restricted to authorized personnel

7. Emergency Procedures

Fire or Smoke

  • Instruction stops immediately

  • Instructors escort students calmly to the nearest exit

  • Proceed to the designated outdoor assembly area

  • Do not re-enter until cleared by authorities

 

Medical Emergency

  • Call 911 if necessary

  • Provide basic first aid if trained staff are available

  • Notify school administration and parents/guardians

 

Earthquake

  • Drop, Cover, and Hold On

  • Stay away from windows and heavy objects

  • Evacuate only after shaking stops and if directed

 

Power Outage

  • Suspend instruction if safety is compromised

  • Escort students to safe, well-lit areas

  • Follow administrative guidance

 

8. Communicable Illness (Flu, COVID-19, and Similar Illnesses)

Belle Melodie Music Art School prioritizes the health and well-being of our students, families, and staff and aims to reduce the spread of communicable illnesses.

If a student, parent, staff member, or visitor is experiencing flu-like symptoms (such as fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, or fatigue), we strongly suggest not attending in person. If attendance is necessary while experiencing mild symptoms, wearing a face mask is encouraged.

If a student, staff member, or visitor tests positive for COVID-19 or another contagious illness, they must not attend in person.

Absences due to illness will be excused, even if notice is provided within 24 hours of the scheduled lesson or class.

If a teacher is experiencing flu-like symptoms or tests positive for COVID-19, Belle Melodie will attempt to arrange a substitute teacher or reschedule the class in order to protect the health of students.

These guidelines are intended to support community health while maintaining instructional continuity whenever possible.

9. Emergency Equipment & Signage

  • Fire extinguishers maintained on site

  • First aid kits available

  • Emergency exits clearly marked

  • Emergency contact information accessible to staff

10. Incident Reporting

  • All accidents, injuries, or near-miss incidents must be reported to school administration

  • An incident report will be completed and retained on file

  • Corrective actions will be taken as appropriate

 

11. Training & Communication

  • Staff and instructors receive safety orientation upon onboarding

  • Emergency procedures reviewed periodically

  • Safety expectations communicated during camps and special events

 

12. Contractors & Maintenance Safety

  • Maintenance work scheduled outside student hours whenever possible

  • Tools, ladders, and materials kept inaccessible to students

  • Electrical work performed only when power is safely shut off

  • No hazardous materials stored in student-accessible areas

13. Events, Camps & Recitals

 

For events and camps:

  • Check-in and crowd flow managed by staff

  • Cables secured and walkways kept clear

  • Additional supervision assigned as needed

  • Emergency exits and aisles remain unobstructed

 

14. Review & Updates

This Site Safety Plan is reviewed:

  • At least annually

  • After any significant incident

  • When facilities or programs change

Updates are made as necessary to maintain safety and compliance.
